EFEA - The European Forum for Educational Administration
EFEA is a network for those committed to the sharing of experience in practice, research and teaching in the administration, leadership and management of education at all levels within a European context. The objectives of the EFEA are to stimulate and facilitate contacts and exchanges of information and experience between members, along with the development and promotion of new concepts in the field. From the beginning, the European Forum on Educational Administration and its individual members have worked for the establishment of national associations within their own countries aimed at developing and representing the area of knowledge and practice variously known as "educational administration", "education management" or "educational leadership".
Membership
The EFEA is an "umbrella" organization in that its members normally become so through their membership of the appropriate national organization. It has always sought ways of establishing a dialogue among researchers, teachers, managers, administrators, inspectors, advisers and governors who work within and for schools. But expert knowledge and professional background are not the only principles of recruitment: interest in contacts with colleagues in other countries and the exchange of ideas and experiences over frontiers are equally grounds for membership.
All these people are invited to become a member of an affiliated national association and by doing so to participate in the European Forum. Individuals in countries which have not yet established a national organization have direct access through individual membership in the European Forum. Currently there are affiliated national associations in Belarus, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, the Republic of Ireland, Latvia, The Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, the Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
Publications
The Newsletter
This provides information concerning EFEA activities, current initiatives in our respective countries, and issues for debate. New achievements in our field of interest such as research results, development ventures, new and important changes in the macro-structure of different countries are presented together with report from other international organizations and their activities. The Newsletter is published in English and French-language editions.
The Bulletins of the EFEA
The EFEA produces a series of monographs and books. Some of these comprise papers presented at national or international Forum activities; others are more traditional books. In each case, they are refereed, professionally produced and have material which is of direct relevance to a European audience interested in educational leadership, management and administration.
The Forum has also established the category of "honorary member" ("membre d´honneur") for those members who have made distinguished contributions to the development of the EFEA.
