Ever wondered about the fine folk who work behind the scenes at BELMAS?
We’re a small (though some might say, perfectly formed) unit who are well seasoned in keeping the BELMAS cogs turning (hopefully without looking like we’ve broken a sweat in doing so!). We’re made up of two Sheffield-ers and one Coventry native, all of whom are partial to gratuitous wit and reparetee, a mid-morning sweet pastry, and long-winded discussions about the latest TV drama.
Ryan joined BELMAS as the Executive Officer in May 2022. With over 10 years of experience in Senior Management across the Charity Sector and Higher Education, Ryan brings a wealth of expertise in Governance, Organisational Development, Change Management, HR and Membership Services.
Alongside his role at BELMAS Ryan is Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees at Aberyswyth Students’ Union, Community Governor at St Laurences School (part of the Diocese of Coventry Multi-Academy Trust) and a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management.
Fun facts – Ryan is a passionate Liverpool FC fan despite being from the Midlands. He has completed both the London and Paris Marathons for Children with Cancer and Teenage Cancer Trust and has competed at regional level in Football and Crown Green Bowls. Ryan also represented Great Britain for Kung Fu in Sicily as a child, finishing fourth.
Ryan is a strong advocate of mental health and neurodiversity and became a Mental Health First Aider following the loss of his son, Alfie Joseph. He believes firmly in “bringing your full self to work” and often talks openly about his adult diagnosis of ADHD.
Sheffield native, Nicola has worked for BELMAS since January 2019, taking the office to new heights with her background in Marketing and Creative Writing.
In January 2023, she stepped into the shiny new role of Membership Engagement Manager (Deputy Executive Officer) and is currently leading a number of projects which aim to deliver more value to our members and propel BELMAS forward into an exciting new era.
Fun facts – In her teens and early twenties, Nicola toured the UK as part of a girl band (the evidence has since been destroyed!). These days, she volunteers as a creative writing coach for children, is obsessed with all things film and TV, makes lists for anything and everything, and is in the process of writing a book with her childhood best friend. Most notably, she doesn’t go a day without eating a bite of chocolate!
Our resident Jack-of-all-trades; Kelly has managed the Society’s finances since 2013 and plays a vital role in the planning and delivery of the annual conference. In addition, she provides unwavering assistance to members and administrative support to the Council and Executive Boards. A Sheffield girl and Mum to Mason and Josh; Kelly brings energy, humour, passion and steel not only to the team, but also to the custodianship of BELMAS finances and to a myriad of support activities.
Fun facts – Kelly is a walking, talking FRIENDS encyclopaedia and can offer up a quote from the show to fit any living scenario. She wears contact lenses for poor eyesight, but can spot a typo from a mile away. She loves the name Riley yet strangely enough, didn’t use the name for either of her two sons! Kelly is also a brown belt in karate, a maestro on Excel, and is allergic to all animals. Yes – even dogs!
Cynthia joined BELMAS in September 2023. With over 15 years of experience in the charity sector, Cynthia brings a wealth of expertise in events, marketing and communications and EDI.
Alongside her role at BELMAS, Cynthia is a Cake Artist and sits as a local Magistrate.
Fun Facts – Cynthia is an Arsenal fan, and loves the beautiful game so much, she was late for her own wedding. She has also taken part in Channel 4’s Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas and Bake Off An Extra Slice.
