Dr Jan HetheringtonVice-Chair EDI and Trustee
Jan Hetherington completed an EdD at Staffordshire University, whose research interests are focused on governance, democracy, social justice, Bourdieu, policy and parental and community engagement. Her thesis explored the Co-operative Academy Trust and its model of governance in relation to co-operative values, democracy and parental engagement in a neoliberal context of education.
She has had papers accepted for BELMAS Conference 2020 and 22, as well as papers for AERA 21 and 22 and BERA 22/23. She was awarded a BELMAS Student Research Bursary and a bursary from the Dr Ruth Thompson Global Teaching Scholarship Fund in 2020 and 2022. She has had publications in IMPACT, BELMAS Blog and MiE. Jan is also deputy director of Aspirations Learning Institute after a career spent as a vice principals in numerous schools in areas of great deprivation.
She has been an SLE for leadership of curriculum, as well as delivering training to newly designated SLEs. Jan is the course leader for the L7 senior leader apprenticeship and is responsible for teacher and leadership education in her Trust. All approaches to Jan’s CPD delivery are facilitated through a coaching approach, for which Jan has a ILM level 5 qualification.
