Ron Glatter is Emeritus Professor of Educational Administration and Management at the U.K.’s Open University, where he was a Professor and Director of the Centre for Educational Policy and Management for many years. Before that he was Reader in Educational Administration at the Institute of Education, University of London.
From 1971 to 1974 he was the founding Secretary of what is now called the British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society (BELMAS). He later became its national Chair and was Honorary President from 2013 to 2019.
He was given the BELMAS Distinguished Service Award in 2007 and the Society’s first Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. He has undertaken a variety of international activities including presentations in, and study visits to, many countries. He has been a governor of two secondary schools (one as Chair), a primary school, a college of further education and three universities, including the Council of the Institute of Education, University of London (2004-2012). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He has published widely on educational governance, leadership and organisation and in recent years has focused, in particular, on school system reform and the implications for governance, management and overall effectiveness.
