Awards

BELMAS has a number of Awards that are presented to members at the Annual Conference. Recipients are decided by a variety of panels selected by the Awards, Bursaries & Grants (ABG) Committee. 

Please note, the 2026 Doctoral Thesis Award opened on Monday 8th December 2025 and closed on Monday 26th January 2026.

The Distinguished Service Award is now open on a rolling application programme. Awards are given at the BELMAS Annual Conference. The cut off for nominations considered for the 2026 award was Sunday 8th March 2026. Any nominations submitted after this date will be considered for the 2027 award. 

All other awards are currently CLOSED. 


Criteria and Dates

Doctoral Thesis Award

Nominations Open: Monday 8th December 2025
Nominations Close: Monday 26th January 2026
Review Panel: February-April 2026
Decision: April 2026


THE AWARD IS NOW CLOSED

The Doctoral Thesis Award is determined by nomination by a Supervisor through the BELMAS website, followed by a review by an independent panel of BELMAS Members. 

The winner shall be awarded a trophy and be invited to the BELMAS Conference as a guest of the Board of Trustees. 

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 4th July at the 2026 BELMAS Conference in Cardiff, Wales, during which the winners (winner and runner up) will be announced.

PLEASE NOTE, THIS AWARD IS OPEN ON A ROLLING PROGRAMME

The Distinguished Service Award is determined by nomination through the BELMAS website, followed by a review by the Distinguished Fellows Advisory Board (DFAB) (made up of past DSA recipients).

The winner shall be awarded a trophy and invited to the BELMAS Conference as a guest of the Board of Trustees and will be reimbursed travel for attendance.

Due to the significance of this prestigious award, all winners shall be ratified by the Board of Trustees.

Please note, the Distinguished Service Award runs on a rolling nomination programme.

The cut off date for nominations considered for the 2026 award has now passed.

If you would like your nominee to be considered for award at the 2027 BELMAS Conference, please submit your nomination before March 2027 (date TBC).

Nominations submitted after this date will be considered for award at the 2028 BELMAS Conference.

Conference Best Paper Award

This award is determined by the Awards, Bursaries and Grants Committee during the BELMAS Conference.

Conference ECR Best Paper Award

This award is determined by the Awards, Bursaries and Grants Committee during the BELMAS Conference.

Conference Best Poster Presentation Award

This award is determined by the Awards, Bursaries and Grants Committee during the BELMAS Conference.

BELMAS Best Blog Award

This award is determined by the Awards, Bursaries and Grants Committee following a review period carried out by the Blog Editorial Group.
