LPD RIG Event March 2024

We invite you to join us for the next event from our Leadership, Preparation and Development Research Interest Group, when authors Lizana Oberholzer and Derek Boyle will join BELMAS Chair, Deb Outhwaite, to discuss their new book ‘Mentoring and Coaching in Education: A Guide to Coaching and Mentoring Teachers at Every Stage of their Careers’. 

The book explores how coaching and mentoring can help develop professional learning and leadership, and how these two professional learning interventions can be used by school teachers and leaders throughout their careers to enable them to flourish.

About the Authors

Dr. Lizana Oberholzer:

Lizana is a senior lecturer in teacher education and programme lead at the University of Wolverhampton. Lizana led on the MA Leadership in Education course at the University of East London and led on teacher education as a former SCITT director. She is passionate about teacher development she is the APPG SIG convenor for Teacher Development and CPD, BELMAS research interest group convenor for governing and
governance, and BELMAS Trustee, BAMEed trustee. In addition, Lizana is an active IPDA members, and Chairs the IPDA International Committee, as well as the IPDA England Association. She is a CMI Fellow, Chartered College of Teaching Founding Fellow, Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, CollectiveEd Fellow, Chair of the UCET CPD Forum, and MAT director.

Derek Boyle

Derek has been the SCITT director at Bromley Schools’ Collegiate since September 2013, but prior to this, he worked in a variety of teaching roles across a number of different schools in Kent. Originally qualifying as a physics teacher, he has also worked as an Advanced Skills Teacher in Medway and as an assistant head teacher in Tonbridge, with pastoral, vocational and careers guidance areas of responsibility. During his time as an assistant head teacher, he had the privilege to work with the link governors from the school and play a significant role in peer mentoring.
