We invite you to the first event from the Social Theory in the Field of ELMA RIG:
‘Thinking with Bourdieu Workshop’
Join Professor Helen Gunter and Dr Karen Healey for an engaging introductory workshop on thinking with Pierre Bourdieu’s key concepts.
Designed for researchers who are new to Bourdieu, the session will offer a supportive and practical space to explore ideas such as field, habitus and capital for example, and to consider how these concepts can be used to shape and deepen your own research.
Through guided activities and discussion, participants will have the opportunity to unpack Bourdieu’s thinking, ask questions, and begin to translate these theoretical ideas into useful tools for research design, analysis and interpretation. No prior knowledge of Bourdieu is required – just curiosity and a willingness to think critically about how theory can illuminate educational and social research.
We hope you can join us.
Please note, this event is FREE to both BELMAS members and non-members.
Registration will close at midnight (UK) on Tuesday 24th November 2026.
Joining instructions will be sent out the day before the event, so please keep an eye on your inbox for these. We look forward to seeing you at the event!
