DSA Winner, Marianne Coleman, accepting her award from DSA Panel Chair, Helen Gunter.
Of her award, Marianne said:
‘It was a delightful surprise to learn that I had been awarded the BELMAS DSA this year and wonderful to know that my work was recognised as being worthy of the honour.
I really valued the opportunity to attend part of the 2024 conference and to meet up with friends I had not seen for some time as well as meeting new colleagues.
Within the wider field of educational leadership and management my main focus has been on how leadership impacts on, and is affected by, issues of diversity and inclusion especially gender, so I am delighted that this area has been highlighted by the award. I am also delighted that the Gender RIG is so well established in BELMAS, and that it contains such wonderful scholars who continue to push forward, expanding our understanding of practice and theory in relation to gender and educational leadership.
I would like to thank the members of the RIG for all their support, Helen, for her lovely speech in handing over the award, and Deb, Ryan and others who looked after me so beautifully at the conference. As I am no longer actively engaged in educational leadership and management and BELMAS activities, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Tony Bush who gave me so many opportunities at the start of my career in our field and to remember my dear friend, colleague and writing partner Jacky Lumby who I greatly miss. How lucky I was to work with such wonderful colleagues at Leicester and at the Institute of Education and to work on something about which I am passionate: education for fairness and equity for all.’

DSA Winner, Steven Courtney, accepting his award from DSA Panel Chair, Helen Gunter.
