Dr Sal JarvisCo-opted Trustee
Sal Jarvis has spent almost her whole professional life in education focusing, for some of that time, on learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and on learners from marginalised and disadvantaged communities. She has worked in the third sector and local authorities; from early years to adult learners. Sal spent thirteen years as a primary teacher – including as SEND and Inclusion Co-ordinator for most of that time. Sal moved to Higher Education, as a teacher educator at the University of Hertfordshire, in 2006. She completed her doctorate while working at Hertfordshire, researching the practice of authority in academic leadership and management. She held a number of roles at Hertfordshire, including three years as Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, before moving to the University of Westminster as Deputy Vice Chancellor Education.
Sal is retiring from Westminster in 2025 to focus on other, mainly governance focused, roles. Alongside work with BELMAS, she is a Non-Executive Director of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Mental Health Trust and a Governor of Lonsdale School, a fantastic 4-19 school for learners with PNI (physiological and neurological impairments). Sal is also a Trustee of the Laurel Trust, a charity which funds teacher-led research in schools supporting disadvantaged communities.
